Project summary

This project aims to examine the consequences of perceived reputation and residential stigma on neighborhood cohesion. Specifically, it is intended to 1) to characterize the spatial structure of the three main cities of Chile: Santiago, Valparaíso and Concepción. That is, different existing spatial configurations considering spatial factors such as socioeconomic level of the areas, residential density, and crime levels. 2) To examine variations in reputation and internal (or perceived) residential stigma in the three main cities of Chile: Santiago, Valparaíso and Concepción. 3) To determine the consequences of residential stigma and reputation, and specifically its changes over time, on neighborhood cohesion patterns in the three main cities of Chile. To address our problem, we will combine data from the five waves of the Longitudinal Social Survey of Chile (ELSOC) and georeferenced data at the census tract level.
